Baaa

Man I'm such a scrooge this year. I just can't get into the Christmas spirit. I almost didn't even put up a Christmas tree, but then mom made me feel guilty about it so I finally put it together. We're not going to be able to enjoy Christmas because we wake up Christmas morning with Sean's family and then hurry and drive to Nashville. It's miserable. I just want to relax and enjoy myself but I can't.

I've done all my Christmas shopping. I kind of wish we would've opted out of buying&recieving gifts this year but I don't think that's possible. We had to dip into our savings and It's stressing me out. Don't get me wrong I'm very thankful for all that I have and the wonderful family and friends that get us gifts, I just wish we could just enjoy each others' company and not worry with material gifts, and give more gifts from the heart that were more meaningful.

I sound like such an ungreatful person but I promise I am so very thankful and I thank God every day for all the people and things he has blessed me with. I just wish christmas wasn't so commercial and more about Jesus and Family.

Maybe I'm just in a bad mood.

I hope your Christmas is merry ad that your mood is much happier than mine!
Maybe I'll be able to get into the Christmas mood this weekend at my Mom's family Christmas!

have a Great weekend!

one thing we do to help offset Christmas expenses is to have a seperate savings account just for Christmas. Twice a month we have automatic deductions that send $50 to this savings account. It is just strictly my Christmas account. I put everything on credit cards and as the bills start to come in, I transfer the money from that savings account to the cards. That way they get paid off and it doesn't take a huge chunk that we weren't prepared for.

Anyway, Christmas is fun. Its nice to see family but I can definitely see where you're coming from about rushing.

Enjoy your family this weekend though, and Merry Christmas!

We also have a Christmas savings account. But we spent it pretty quickly and have dipped into our other savings as well. So we need to plan better for next year.

I hope your mood brightens as you get surrounded by family and friends. But I do agree that it should not be about who got what gift for whom. Hand made gifts are pretty great and don't usually cost much money (depending on what they are), but they do need a little planning and time.

Aww, I hope you feel more 'Christmasy' soon! I know what you mean about it being so commercial.. It does get discouraging!
Just focus on Jesus, that's what it's all about anyway!

I was like you about Christmas until I decided to do things the way I wanted. We told family that we were no longer giving gifts because we couldn't afford it. They understood... and I kind of think they are all relieved that we no longer all have to give gifts to everyone.

And if we want to spend Christmas just ourselves then that is what we do. If it makes you miserable don't do it. :)

I agree with you. We stopped buying for everyone in our families about 10 years ago and I love it!

we give gifts to family, but have a strict $15 per person ($25 per couple if a family member is married), and it is strictly for immediate family members ONLY. We get a lot of flack from friends who spends hundreds on family members, but the way I see it, Christmas is not about giving gifts... it's about celebrating the birth of Jesus. Giving gifts is a perk for sure, but I never want my kids growing up thinking that they deserve TONS of gifts. That being said, we do a Christmas savings account also, and it has helped make sure that we don't break the budget during the Christmas season.
