Birdie is no longer a puppy. She is officially a woman...meaning she "started" or in dog terms she came into heat. We bought her planning to breed her and raise puppies so naturally we didn't get her fixed. I've never had to experience this before so it was a little shocking at first. It also brings a tear to my eye to know my little puppy is no longer.
I was a little worried that she would never come into heat because of how small she is. My parents have a really old really small black female lab named Jazz who was never able to have puppies and I always just assumed it was because she was so small. I still hope Bird doesn't have any problems, but we're going to wait until at least next year to try and breed her and I can't wait to see all her little puppies!!
I'm keeping her in her pen during the day and since it's gotten so dang cold here at night I keep her inside, which presented a small problem. So I went to petco.com and found her a little diaper to wear at night and she looks so dang cute in it!!!

It's a blue jean diaper with green ruffles around her tail. It comes with disposable inserts for easy clean up.

I mean how cute is this little butt?? (ignore my folded rug)

And just for those of you who have pets.. Petco.com has most of everything way cheaper online than in stores! I found the diaper online for 10 bucks cheaper than in the store, shipping included!!
And now that I've given you way TMI on my dog. I wanted to give you THE BEST POTATO SOUP RECIPE EVER!!!!!
I made this for bible study one time and it was a huge hit!! Since it's been so dang cold lately I thought a Hot Potato Soup Recipie was in order..
Ingredients:
6 red potatoes
6 slices bacon, diced
1 onion, diced
1/2 cup chopped celery
1 cube chicken boullion
1/2 cup boiling water
1 cup vinegar
2 teaspons salt
1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
Directions:
Clean and scrub baking potatoes. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add potatoes and cook until tender but still firm, about 15 minutes. Drain, cool and cut into thick slices; place slices in a large bowl.
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet. Cook over medium high heat until crisp. Stir the onion and celery into the skillet and cook gently until the vegetables turn yellow.
Dissolve the bouillion cube in boiling water and stir in the vinegar, salt and pepper. Pour the broth mixture into the skillet with the bacon/onion mixture and bring water to a boil.
Add the egg slowly, stirring until the mixture is slightly thickened. Pour the vegetable mixture over the potatoes, add parsley and toss lightly (I also added shredded cheese to the top of mine)
I found this recipe online but can't remember where...sorry! Hope you enjoy!! Have a great day!

Oh my gosh!!! hahaha.... I had NO IDEA that they made diapers for dogs! That is seriously the funniest thing I have seen lately!
I have a really good potato soup recipe too. It's somewhere on my blog. If you are interested in trying a new one I can find it for you.
Oh these brings back memories of when our female Chow went into heat for the first time and we lived in an apartment back then....it was not fun I tell ya! And she was not happy about having to wear the little diaper thing AT ALL!!!!!
Once we moved into a house we would have to keep her locked up in a dog pen with cender blocks all the way around the edges to keep all he "male suiters" at bay!!!!
Good luck to ya and Miss Birdie too!
Diapers for dogs? I guess we have never had a dog in our house so we don't know about this kind of stuff.
Potato Soup is my fav!
So cute! My friend diapered her Basset Hound but she is so cheap she bought baby diapers and cut a tail hole haha!
Love the recipe! I pretty much use the same recipe but i dump the potatoes right into the soup and cook it on med/low because bits fall off and make it kinda like a chunky/creamy soup. we also like to clog our arteries around here so I add a crap ton of bacon grease! =)
That is the FUNNIEST thing i have EVER seen. Maybe i should get one for my dog so we don't have to put up a gate at night! Hubby is afraid he will pee on the carpet during the night so he puts a gate up! LOVE IT! HAHA!
& thanks for the recipe!
That a great idea. We had a dog that went into heat a few times when I was growing up... yuck!
