Chillin with my Peeps

"Shake your tail feather!"

So I didn't realize how interesting it would be raising chickens.  I always thought that chickens were extreamly stupid and simple but they are acutally pretty complex little birdies.  The only chicken I've ever been around was ChickChick, the barnyard sole surviour of the 25 chickens my MIL got when Sean and I first got married.  (She didnt' get them because we got married, just around the same time...that sentence implied that she bought them because we got married and I just wanted to clairfy)  Frosty the horse Stepped on ChickChick the "last of the chickens" when Sean and I were feeding one night and we thought she was a goner.  Sean's Mom nursed ChickChick back to health, keeping her in the well house and hand feed her since she couldn't stand for the next few weeks.  She emerged from the well house as good as new except she walked with a pimp step and would randomly lay eggs while walking across the barnyard.   (for those of you who don't know what a well house is, I'm sorry.  I refuse to explain)

Chick Chick met her maker after being chased around by some friendly dogs.  I think she would have made it away from the dogs if not for her pimp step.  They ran her into a heartattack.  That's why noone should walk with a pimp step...

So back to my chicks.  They look to me as their Mama now and they follow me around in the back yard.  Three of them almost have all of their wing feathers and the others aren't far behind.

Today I let them outside during my lunch break and I noctied it must be something about the Circle T that makes chickens just gangster because I swear my chickens were throwing up signs...
"What up my peeps?"
Seriously though...What are they doing this for?  I can only guess that they are sun bathing maybe?  or airing out their underwings...much like a human might need to do if no deodorant was applied?
At first it was just this little guy above...I thought "aww he's hurt his wing and foot..."
Ok then four of six started doing it...WHAT ARE THEY DOING THAT FOR??
With the help of my MIL I've come to the conclusion that they were just basking in the sun.  Hey check out the chick standing up...I think I'm naming it BirdieToo because it's a runt.(much like Birdie)  It's the same age as the others yet hasn't grown his wings yet.  I'm also pretty sure he is the chick that one of the little girls during photos didn't realize how tight she was squeezing it and it momentarily saw the light.  He may be a little "off"...

I'm having to keep them inside at night because it's still to cold for them.  This is their inside home.  I was sitting on the couch and heard some louder than normal peeps and turned around and they were all perched on top of the box...except for the "off" one,  he couldnt' quite make it...poor little fella
So I gave the little guy a perch to sit on.  this picture is a bit blurry because it's hard to take a photo with your left hand while holding chickens in your right. but you get the gist.

Ok and now I can't forget these children of mine.
Birdie's pissed because she can't play with the chickens....and Banjo could care less either way.
Have a fabulous friday and and even more wonderful weekend!

Fashion

You may be suprised to find this out but Style is not my "area."  I'm not great at knowing what looks good together and what doesn't but I'm really trying to get better at it..though I don't think style is necessarly something you can just learn in a snap of a finger.  If I'm ever wearing a cute outfit it's usually beacuse that's what the mannequin at the store was wearing and I stole her entire look...I was glad to find that Mary Kay had a professional Stylist and makeup artist put together at Trend look for the spring/summer and this year I thought I'd share what's "In."

The Colors that are "in" this spring and summer are energetic bright colors with a tropical vibe.  The stylist tells us to look for light fabrics that are soft to compliment your bright colors..denim and leather tend to be overwhelming in bright shades!  (just say no to purple jeans)  I'm totally loving the girls necklace to the left.  I could never pull off something that huge!! If only my boobs were smaller...

Pulsating prints and tropical florals are a big must have.  Wear the print under a jacket or find a pair of shoes or an accessory in a "can't miss" print to wear with solid colors. Texture is also a big deal with your acessories.  Check out the ones on the left.   Shapes and textures that are inspired by nature such as wood, feathers, and fabric for your accessories.
Comfort fashion is in yay!!  Jersey and cotton and linen are the fabrics to effortly dress up with an accessory... I'm excited to hear this because I love being comfortable.  Infact, I've recently purchased many dresses because they are so much more comfortable than tight pants...which wouldn't be tight if I could loose those extra 10 lbs.

For your face this season is the dewy glistening face with more emphasis placed on the cheeks.  Check out the model in the purple.  Notice her "dewy" look.  A transparant nautrally rosy glow is the key.  I had a girl at a party the other day describe it as the "sweaty" look..it was pretty hilarious. This spring make your cheeks your focal point!  To get this look apply cheeck color to the apples of your cheeks and blend into your temples.  Create a complexion that has been kissed by light.  Apply a highlighter to all the places on your face where sun would hit you, your forehead, cheeks, nose and chin.  The look for your lips are luscious and bright.  Berry colors. I don't look to hot in reds so I'm sticking with the deep browns and purples, like the girl in the photo.

Style your hair away from your face so that your cheeks are the focal point.  Use headbands, or flowers,  or sweep into a long flowing braided ponytail.  I guess that pony tail is out of the questions since I chopped my hair off! Mary Kay's new summer cheek, lip, and shimmer can complete this look. Go to my website to check them out..www.marykay.com/jennathomas... oh and I'm not just trying to sell you on them..I use them daily and LOVE the look!!

I hope you enjoyed my little post of fashion because it probably won't happen again until I get a Winter Trend list :)  I'm good with a tshirt, jeans, and some cowboy boots...or tennis shoes.
