When Bambi met Sean.

WARNING:  Wordful Wednesday's Post is a little graphic today, for those of you who don't get to experience living with a hunter like I do, you might not want to read this post.

So what is Sean doing in this photo you ask??    Sharpening his knife.  Why?

Because he killed a Unicorn.  Or at least that's what he told me when he called me from the deer stand.  I believe his exact words were,  "I've killed the most elusive animal in the world, Jenna a unicorn!"  He needed his knife sharp to skin it and cut out the meat so we can eat him!  We LOVE deer meet and deer sausage and deer chili and deer jerky and deer burgers and deer... well I guess that's about it

He's seen this deer every year for three years and for the last three years it's only grown one horn.  He wanted to kill it to get it out of the breeding gene pool.  (It was my Idea to put his hand up in place of the horn..I thought it was funny last night...now..not so much)

Banjo had to get in close for a sniff,  I think he was dreaming of all the table scraps he would get from this guy later on.

Birdie, was quite curious,  Banjo was around last deer season and knew what he was dealing with,  Birdie was very intrigued.  Banjo tried to explain to her that he was dead and we were going to eat him later, but Birdie kept barking like a maniac.

Oh and Sean also killed this demon.  The Coyote.  They get after the calves during calving season and so Sean is happy to kill them at any time.

This was a big coyote.  He was bigger than Birdie and Banjo.  Banjo was scared of him and Birdie constantly growled at it.  I'd never heard her growl before and for a little girl she has a very intimidating growl.  (I edited the photo because I didn't think you wanted to look at his innards)

And now just because I exposed you to that gruesome post of photos, I thought I'd leave you with this cute picture I found on Google, to erase the dead animals from your brain...

You're welcome.

Oh Deer

I'm feeling a little better and since I slept all day long, I can't seem to go back to sleep now. I'm still achy and stuffy but the coughing has postponed itself until the cough medicine wears off and the fever has broken hopefully for good. I'm currently day four of the flu, which is hopefully the beginning of the end.

So now that I'm up I wanted to get a story off my chest before I forget. So it was just recently muzzle loading season here in Central Arkansas (deer hunting with a certain type of gun) Sean went hunting almost every morning/evening of the season and saw a few deer. Sunday was the last day and he and his friend Jaret went out into the hay meadow to sit upon the stands they have so carefully placed in front of the food plot they have so carefully planted, to kill us some deer meet.

Let me pause here to explain that the hay meadow at the Circle T ranch is across the river and though the forest from my house...between a huge cliff like hill, and the river. Upon the cliff is a subdivision called Hidden Valley...the Circle T's few hundred acres of hay meadows being that valley. Sean's Aunt and Cousins live right on the edge of the cliff and their back porch view is right over the hay meadow (it's quite beautiful.)

Anyway let me just give you a run down of what happened Sunday Morning. Sean was sitting on one end of the field, Jaret on the other. A doe jumped out of the field in front of Jaret's stand and walked about halfway into the meadow. Because it was late in the morning and they were getting hungry for breakfast at the Waffle House, Jaret called Sean on his phone and started harassing him about not being able to hit the doe with his muzzle loader, which was about 250 yards away.

Let's break from that part of the story and go over to the top of the cliff where Sean's Aunt and Cousins are getting ready for Church. Emily was sitting on the back porch enjoying her breakfast when she spotted far away a sweet little doe leap into the field and start to graze along. Now Emily is not part of the family, she's married into it like I am, but unlike me, she wasn't Raised around deer hunters and has not one inkling about deer hunting. I see a deer and I think, "shoot. Kill. eat." She sees deer she thinks " Aw, Bambi." So Emily sees this doe and cries "Oh Come here everyone!! Look at the Deer! How sweet! The sweet Little Deer!"

OK lets take the story back to Sean and Jaret below in the meadow (figured out what happens yet??) Jaret keeps on with Sean, "Dude you suck, there is NO way you can hit that deer from where you are!" Sean says "Oh yes I can watch this!" BAAANNGG

*deer falls, blood exits wound profusely*

Emily screams..
Sean's Aunt called me tonight to tell me all about Emily's experience. I've never laughed so hard in my life... I found if funny...sorry... Bless Emily's Heart...I would hate for a non-hunter to have to witness that early in the morning before Church...she's probably scarred for life now... But at least we have some Deer meet for the next Few months!!!

Happy Hunting!
sorry PETA

Oh deer

Deer season is just around the corner. What does that mean for me you ask? Well, I won't see my husband until after dark for one. Second of all I will be pestered because He likes for me to go too. Not with him though I might add (apparently I can't stay quiet enough), but by myself.

Now I do find this quite sweet, him wanting me to enjoy what he enjoys and all, but I'm not the avid hunter. So anyway deer season brings the daily pestering of, "Jenna go hunting with me." I will again remind you that it's not "with" him, I'd be nowhere near him. I'd be totally by myself so why he enjoys that is beyond me. D you know how BORING it is to sit in a tree stand, quiet all day? It's horrible. Horrible. I can't stand it. I think this year If I go, I'll sneak a book into my backpack and just read all day.

Last year I did shoot my first deer ever. It was a doe. It was tiny. I felt horrible because it was so tiny BUT, there is a story behind why it was so tiny, kind of. There were two doe, does, doe, ?? anyway Sean and I were in the truck...yeah it probably wasn't legal. We were driving out of the pasture and we saw them. Sean made me get out of the truck and said,"shoot the bigger one." I propped my gun on the hood of the truck and aimed at what I thought was the bigger one, but somehow I misjudged and the smaller one fell. Don't ask me how I misjudged..I was nervous. The meat was delicious though! I had to take all the meat off of it myself. It was really hard. I couldn't skin it though. That made me a little sick.

Anyway last week I went to watch Sean plant a food plot in the hay field. The grass is like seven feet tall. I was bitten by 37 mosquito's and one tick. I swear I got Lyme disease. I swear I'm not a hypochondriac, but Web MD said I had Lyme disease.

The weather was beautiful and we got all the winter peas planted. And I took pretty pictures of grass. So watch out deer, here I come!!....with my book!
