Chillin with my Peeps

"Shake your tail feather!"

So I didn't realize how interesting it would be raising chickens.  I always thought that chickens were extreamly stupid and simple but they are acutally pretty complex little birdies.  The only chicken I've ever been around was ChickChick, the barnyard sole surviour of the 25 chickens my MIL got when Sean and I first got married.  (She didnt' get them because we got married, just around the same time...that sentence implied that she bought them because we got married and I just wanted to clairfy)  Frosty the horse Stepped on ChickChick the "last of the chickens" when Sean and I were feeding one night and we thought she was a goner.  Sean's Mom nursed ChickChick back to health, keeping her in the well house and hand feed her since she couldn't stand for the next few weeks.  She emerged from the well house as good as new except she walked with a pimp step and would randomly lay eggs while walking across the barnyard.   (for those of you who don't know what a well house is, I'm sorry.  I refuse to explain)

Chick Chick met her maker after being chased around by some friendly dogs.  I think she would have made it away from the dogs if not for her pimp step.  They ran her into a heartattack.  That's why noone should walk with a pimp step...

So back to my chicks.  They look to me as their Mama now and they follow me around in the back yard.  Three of them almost have all of their wing feathers and the others aren't far behind.

Today I let them outside during my lunch break and I noctied it must be something about the Circle T that makes chickens just gangster because I swear my chickens were throwing up signs...
"What up my peeps?"
Seriously though...What are they doing this for?  I can only guess that they are sun bathing maybe?  or airing out their underwings...much like a human might need to do if no deodorant was applied?
At first it was just this little guy above...I thought "aww he's hurt his wing and foot..."
Ok then four of six started doing it...WHAT ARE THEY DOING THAT FOR??
With the help of my MIL I've come to the conclusion that they were just basking in the sun.  Hey check out the chick standing up...I think I'm naming it BirdieToo because it's a runt.(much like Birdie)  It's the same age as the others yet hasn't grown his wings yet.  I'm also pretty sure he is the chick that one of the little girls during photos didn't realize how tight she was squeezing it and it momentarily saw the light.  He may be a little "off"...

I'm having to keep them inside at night because it's still to cold for them.  This is their inside home.  I was sitting on the couch and heard some louder than normal peeps and turned around and they were all perched on top of the box...except for the "off" one,  he couldnt' quite make it...poor little fella
So I gave the little guy a perch to sit on.  this picture is a bit blurry because it's hard to take a photo with your left hand while holding chickens in your right. but you get the gist.

Ok and now I can't forget these children of mine.
Birdie's pissed because she can't play with the chickens....and Banjo could care less either way.
Have a fabulous friday and and even more wonderful weekend!
