My Bad

Every night before bed I take a relaxing hot bath.  It helps me wind down and forget the stress of my day and puts me in sleep mode.

Sometimes I read in my bath, Sometimes I just lay there and relax, and sometimes I actually fall asleep!  Sometimes I add bathsalts and sometimes I add bubbles.

Sometimes Birdie and Banjo will come lay next to the bathtub with me and nap and once Birdie tried to take a drink of the bathwater.  I had to get on to her so she doesn't do that anymore.

Since I've been so busy lately I've started taking my laptop in with me and getting some work done.  It's a really small notebook Mac computer so it's light.  My bathtub is a huge garden tub so I have plenty of room in there.  I'm always careful not to get my Mac wet.

Until Wednesday Night.

I've been pretending the past two days like this accident didn't happen.  Like everything is fine and that I'm not stupid but I think last night it finally hit me that I actually did drop my laptop into the tub.  I actually did ruin my laptop.  My lap top with all my photos on it, with all my editing software, all my music, all my wedding photos...MY WHOLE LIFE is in that stupid lap top..

...Oh but you backed it up right Jenna?  You saved everything on a backup drive so you don't have any problems right?

Wrong...

So I've had it open and upside down for the past two days letting it air out, hoping and praying it will work.  I turned it on last night and it worked!

Kind of

The screen is no longer colorful.  It's very faded and water blotches are everywhere.

The shift key is evidently stuck along with the caps lock key because every time I tried to type I just kept getting this:  !@#$%^  AND THIS

I'm typing from my work computer, which will have to be my sole computer until I can get mine fixed but I'm screwed on the weekends.

Do you have any suggestions for me?  Can this be fixed or will I have to buy another computer?  Can apple fix this or the Geek squad?    Has anyone else been this stupid and taken their computer into the bathtub with them then watched in slow motion as it dropped into the water while you desperately tried to stop it but you just couldn't do anything but stare at it open mouthed and dumbfounded?

What does a person do without a computer?!  Without the internet!?  I'm scared...help me.

you should try to find somebody in your town that can at least see if they can salvage the information on your hard drive. My hard drive completely crashed but we were able to salvage the computer and just replace the drive. We had a Computer Science professor from WKU fix ours. Good luck, I know I felt like I was seperated from the world without my laptop!

I have no suggestions for you, just thoughts and prayers that it will all get figured out! :-( You are obviously a bigger picture nazi as I am so I can only imagine how you feel. Let's get the hard drive salvaged first! Hoping hard from Minnesota for you!!!

When you get a cell phone wet, you pack in rice to dry it out...worked for mine...maybe a big tub of rice would help....dry rice!!!

Wow! That really bites! Big time! I have no advice, but I will be praying that you can salvage the hard drive - at least.

We had remnants of a hurricane a couple years ago (yeah, all the way up here in PA), and part of a tree fell down and ripped down our cable line. We were without TV, phone, and internet for 4 days before they came out to put the line back up. I thought I would go crazy! I could care less about the phone or tv, but I need my internet!

Hang in there!

JENNA! OH NO!!! LOL. Ok, i'm kind of laughing, but not REALLY. That is so sad.

I am like you with baths. I don't take them every night but if i'm particularly stressed out or just want to relax, i do. And i also read in the tub. This KILLS my husband b/c he loves his books nice & neat just like he bought them. I don't mind them having a little character though :)

But a mac! OH DEAR! (of course i'd probably do that too w/ a garden tub! HAHA! ours is small.) I'm so sorry! I don't know what to tell you. My husband is psycho ocd so we have everything backed up. But if i wasn't married to him i also wouldn't have done that! :( I've never worked w/ Geek Squad. But you should call them & just ask.

I doubt your computer can be revived to its old self, but I bet all the info and pics can be salvaged onto discs for you by someone who knows what they're doing. Our computer got hit by lightning a couple years ago and it really sucked! The computer was shot and wouldn't even turn on, but a computer friend was able to get all of my pictures off of it.

Oh I'm SO sorry! I would be having a panic attack if my photoshop was gone! I'm glad that someone else takes nightly baths though...I do the same thing! I take a bath after the kids are in bed almost every night. I usually have a good book and my blackberry in there with me...but I am praying that the phone never gets in the tub with me. ;) Good luck with the computer...I wish i knew something that would help!

My husband is a Mac guy, and this is his two cents:

Since your computer booted up, the hard drive (and data) should be fine so you can get your pictures/files off of it. So you should be able to back up your data to an external drive(or have someone else do it).

The keyboard might still be a bit wet and need to dry out a little more (and the screen too).

I would take it to an apple repair shop and see what they can do for you. The keyboard can be replaced, but it's probably not worth the money to get the display replaced (you could plug in an external monitor and keyboard and still use the computer... if you have all that equipment already or want to buy it).

Good luck! Hopefully your Mac can be salvaged (and your data too). Or my hubby says you can pull out the hard drive and buy an enclosure for it. Then you will have an external hard drive (to use as a backup for it's replacement laptop).
