The Great Fire of 2010

Tomorrow is my Birthday.  Except I've decided that I will not get any older than I am right now because 25 just screams "adult"  so tomorrow I will be 24 again.  Thanks.

We are having a crawfish boil in honor of the day of my birth.  And what better way to do that than to eat small crustaceans  that are so hot your mouth is numb by the end of the evening.  My friend Shannon shares the same birthday as me and my BFF from back home, Laci's birthday is today so we are all three celebrating Saturday!

Anyway since we're having a few people over on Saturday, Sean decided he needed to clean up the outside of our house a little, starting with the leaves in the yard.  Our front yard has 9 oak trees in it give or take. We have a yard full of leaves that are waist deep..almost.  Yesterday after my lunch break I was leaving and Sean was in the front yard raking the leaves in to small piles.  When I returned home at 5, Our yard was a smoldering black sea of burnt ashes, plus one tree on fire.  I was very alarmed.  Was Sean alive??   I walked in the back door and Sean's white tennis shoes were on the back porch, they are no longer white, but BLACK.  Apparently when you stamp out a out of control yard fire your shoes get burned..He was unharmed though..by the fire anyways, unharmed by me is a different story.

APPARENTLY, he got tired of raking and decided he would burn the leaves instead and the fire got way out of control.  The small tree on fire was one near the fence line close to the highway.  Our fence line is lined with bushes and trees, it keeps our house a little private from all the passers-by.  So the tree was already dead and was just a 5 foot tall stump. But buddy that thing burned and burned.  When it got dark it was more noticeable and apparently it was more alarming to the people driving by and I had three people stop, pull in my drive way, knock on my door, and ask if I knew we had a tree on fire.

Ok, now I'm really thankful that there are still people in this world that are good. I'm very thankful that they stopped to warn me, just in case I didn't know.  But Come On People it's dead center in front of my front door, which has a glass door that was wide open.   Thetree is 75 feet from my house and FLAMING.. oh and no chance it's going to fall on the house because it's a 5 foot tall stump... I'm not retarted, I can see the flaming tree.   I don't know, maybe they thought someone was burning a cross in my yard as a warning or something...I'm just glad noone called the fire department but it wouldn't have surprised me to see fire  trucks speeding into my driveway.

So now we will be eating crawfish over a lawn of burnt ashes instead of leaves...not quite so sure it was a good trade off but at least Sean tried...
