Not Me Monday

It's Monday Again! This blog carnival was created by MckMama. You can head over to her blog to read what she and everyone else have not been doing this week.

I did not skip out of work early Friday to go to the Rodeo with Sean, then throw a PMS fit and stay home..
I certainly did not forget to buy dog food for my Chocolate Children and feed them ham and turkey from the fridge instead...
I did not drive to Nashville to help a friend move into a new house and then watch movies with her instead of moving...
I did not drive to the Rodeo Saturday night just to make up for being a PMS B*tch rude to watch Sean win 2nd place!
I also did not accidently leave the shower door open, my clothes all over the floor, my wedding ring on the counter, and the lights and radio on while trying to get to the Rodeo on time..leaving my sister to come home and think I was kidnapped... (she seriously thought I was kidnapped)
I do not have purple fingernails and fingers because of shelling two buckets of Purple Hull peas last night and not scrubbing my hands raw...
And last but not least.. I did not steal toilet paper from the extra bathroom in Sean's mom's house because we forgot to buy any yesterday.... (I'll replace it today I promise!)

Joaquin sucks.

Well, It's Officially Hurricane Season 2009 for the Atlantic Coast. Tropical Storm Bill officially became a Hurricane in the Atlantic this morning. The Weather Channel has listed the names of this year future Hurricane's in alphabetical order. As I scrolled down to "J" with hopes that "Jenna" would be this year's winner, I was disappointed, again. Joaquin is this year "J" winner. Joaquin? really? What a stupid Hurricane name.

Anyways...even though I am an avid Weather Channel watcher, I usually don't pay that much attention to the Hurricanes. I mean, I live in Arkansas...they just don't usually effect me. Two years ago I paid attention because I lived in Houston, and they affected me. Then after I moved back to Arkansas, I didn't care anymore (sorry Gulf Coast--don't mean to be rude) But after last year's Hurricane season I'm going to pay attention again.

Hurricane Gustav and then Ike hit the Gulf Coast hard last year and they didn't weaken too much by the time they came up to Arkansas. And The rain came down and the flood's came up, the rain came down and the floods came up, the rains came down and the floods came up, and I'm foolish and put my house in a flood plane, 300 yards from the river!

Here's some photo's from last summer. The farm... notice the fence post sticking up about 5 inches above the water. And yes, those are round hay bales on the right.

This is all supposed to be pasture...Can you see the barn...in 6 foot deep water?
I'd never seen anything like the flooding of last summer before, and neither had anyone else since 1969. The spot where my house is now, wasn't flooded last year, but still...it could happen! Now that I live on the river and am at risk to be carried down stream, I figure I might better start tracking these Hurricanes again...you know...just in case...

Show us your Life

This Weeks Show us your life that Kelly is hosting is Favorite Vacation Spots. My most favorite Vacation was my Honeymoon but I already posted about that Last week! So this week I'd like to show you my other Favorite vacation spot, Cancun Mexico!! I went about 4 years ago with my two College roommate, and three of our other best friends. We were all Sorority Sisters. This was our Hotel. I don't remember the Name but it had Mayan in it...Look how blue the water was!!We had a little to much Tequila at the pool bar. Mindy, the girl with her tongue out is really funny! She couldn't speak a lick of Spanish so she would just talk to everyone we saw in English but with a Spanish accent, it was hilarious. We went shopping down town at some of the markets. We got lost and had to walk a couple miles to find a bus stop. It was scary. We went to Margaritaville...And shopped at Margaritaville..We went SCUBA diving, which was the most amazing experience! We went to see some of the Mayan Ruins..It was amazing! Then on the way home from the ruins, our drivers said Let me take you all to a Sink Hole! We were a little leery at first but then we agreed, then he turned onto this trail into the woods in the middle of nowhere and we got a little scared. Then all of the sudden this beautiful sink hole with tons of people everywhere appeared. It was the best time!

This was a fun vacation with the girls! If you ever get a chance to go to Cancun...GO! But wait until the swine flu epidemic is over!!

Have a great weekend, I'm off to the Rodeo!

Part II

Part II

When We last left Wayne & Norma, they had just gotten married at Lackland Air Base in San Antonio, TX before Wayne started officer training school.
The Church on the Base at San Antonio that My grandparents, Wayne & Norma, were married in is pictured above. The week after their wedding my Grandad, Wayne, started officer training. He said it was pretty rigid and you had to do everything by the book, salute every officer, make your bed, etc. After nine weeks of ground training he finally got to fly in the afternoons for flight school.
After officer training he was sent to Garden City, Kansas for Basic Flight training. He learned about weather, and navigation. On their air field they had planes coming in from both sides of the run way, one side landed and one side took off. Wayne got in the wrong lane while landing during one of his first training flights and his instructor got on to him and gave him a really hard time about it from then on.
After logging in 7 or 8 hours of flight training he got to fly his first solo flight. When his flight instructor finally told him he was ready for his first solo fight he said, "Well Wayne, You're probably going to kill yourself, but go ahead and take off." This was pretty funny because Granddad was actually a really good pilotAfter nine weeks he went to Altus, Oklahoma for Advanced Training and after graduating from Advanced Training he got his 2nd Lt. Bars and Pilot Wings.
He stayed in Altus for a month, with Norma and Ronnie, as a Advanced Training Instructor and was then sent to Sioux City Iowa to join a crew as Co-Pilot for a B-17 bomber squad, to prepare to go overseas.
Above is his flight crew. The same crew he flew with throughout all of his bombing missions over Germany.
In a letter to home after a short visit home before going overseas Wayne Wrote...

Dearest Mother & All
Well we are back home and all settled down again. We got out last night and hunted for another apartment we found one for $10 a week that wasn't bad at all. It may be a little hot but I think we can put up with a little heat for that much difference in the rent.
We can make our car payment almost with the difference in rent.
Well I went to the hospital and let the doc's examine me. They sill didn't put me back on flying but they surely will pretty soon.
I think we will send for Ronnie's little bed now that we have a car to haul it around.
Old Ronnie stood the trip just fine. We managed to cross most of the hot country at night, but still the 2nd day was plenty hot.
Those tires on our Ford sure stood up good. We didn't have a flat all the way and those roads, in places, were plenty rough.
I was sure sleepy when we got here and so was Norma, we hadn't slept but a hour now and then since we started. We have sure caught up on our sleep since we have been here though.
Today (Sunday) I slept until noon.
It sure seems kindly lonesome just us three again after being with you all.
Well, I better close for now.
Our new address will be 1022 Virginia S. Sioux city.
With all our Love,
Wayne Norma & Ronnie
P.S. Dad, we got home on less than a 100 gals of gas. I had almost 40 gals left out of the 130 allowed me.

Well that's all for today. Come back for Part III, Wayne finally goes overseas to fight WWII and Leaves Norma & Ronnie.
